What is Lasting Power of Attorney?
The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows your loved ones to take care of you and your finances when you are unable to do so yourself. The donor ought to be at least 21 years of age, to voluntarily appoint one or more persons as their donee(s) to make decisions and act on his behalf should he lose his mental capacity one day.
A donee is appointed to act in two broad areas of ‘Property & Affairs’ and ‘Personal Welfare’ matters. In ‘Property & Affairs’, the LPA allows your donee to deal financial matters. Such as with payment of bills, buying and selling of property while managing your bank accounts and investments. For ‘Personal Welfare’, the LPA covers decisions regarding health and care, even to the extent of determining where you are to live. LPA is meant to be used if someone is incapable of dealing with such matters by themselves.
Benefits of LPA
- Early preparations to protect your interests should one become vulnerable one day.
- Enables you to make a personal, considered choice of a trusted proxy decision-maker, who is reliable and competent to act in his or her best interests.
- Alleviates the stress and difficulties faced by loved ones who need to apply for a Deputyship order, if you lose mental capacity without an LPA in place.

Despite not being his client, Andrew proactively encouraged me to do up my Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA). The entire process was no frill for me, he charges only a nominal fee of $20 for his clients, but for me is complimentary.
When he heard that I missed out claiming one of my insurance policy with Prudential, he volunteered to assist me with the application, even though I am not his existing customer.
He love his job, his family and his friends. If you are looking for an agent who knows his expertise and stand by you when the need comes, he is the man. And I got my claim, despite missing the submission deadline.
